Brig Owens was a professional American football player who was a safety in the National football league for the cowboys and Washington Redskins, he played college football for the University of Cincinnati & also played for Fullerton union high school as a quarterback. Brig Owens moved to Fullerton Junior College where he was named the starting quarterback and led the team to its 1st ever bowl game ‘1861 orange bowl show’ & in his 2nd season he received junior college All-American honors. Brig Owens transferred to the University of Cincinnati in 1963 where he was named the starting quarterback & he also served as the placekicker and punter. Brig Owens was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 1965 NFL draft & he spent most of the year on the team’s taxi squad. Brig Owens was traded to the Washington Redskins in 1966 along with Jake Kupp and Mitch Johnson for Jim Steffen and Willie parker. Brig Owens remained in Washington Redskins until he retired after the 1977 season, he holds the record for most interception return yards in Redskins history & is second all-time for the Redskins in career interceptions.
