On April 11, 2021, Daunte Wright was driving a vehicle with his girlfriend in his white Buick LaCrosse. After reaching Brooklyn Center, Daunte Wright was stopped by a police officer Kimberly Potter and by some other officers,  they pulled them over. Kimberly Potter said to Daunte Wright and his girlfriend that they did this because of the car’s expired registration on the license plate. Kimberly Potter ran and searched whether he had any case registered. Kimberly Potter found an open arrest warrant against Daunte Wright for carrying a gun without a permit. Kimberly Potter and other officers tried to get Daunte Wright outside the car, Daunte Wright came out of the car, but after a short time Daunte Wright went inside of his car and tried to run but officers did not let him do that, after the struggle between officers and Daunte Wright Kimberly Potter mistakenly pulled her gun trigger and shot Daunte Wright at a close range instead of using her taser. After shooting Kimberly Potter was repeatedly found saying Oh shit, I just shot him. Daunte Wright was shot in his chest and after being shot Daunte Wright tried to escape and he drove off in his car for a short distance and dashed to another car, when officers reached the car Daunte Wright was already dead.
